The Penguin, makes a move to take over the criminal underworld in Gotham
Story
After the events of The Batman (2022), Oz Cobb, a.k.a. Except for the Bat-signal in the final shot of the season finale, we never got our Robert Pattinson cameo in «The Penguin.» In this short video, IMDb attempts to answer: where the hell was Batman?. Colin Farrell fought hard to have his version of The Penguin smoke tobacco in The Batman (2022), but was unsuccessful. In his own series, however, the character is depicted as an occasional tobacco user, with a preference for cigars.
Absolutely nailed the tone and feel
The DC Studios logo is set in a rainy Gotham alley. An umbrella falls and the logo changes to the Warner Bros. logo. Featured in Graham Norton likes: Lady Gaga/Demi Moore/Colin Farrell/Richard Ayoade/Jack Savoretti (2024).
Where to start with Farrell
Gritty, dirty and dark, but Farrell manages to capture that glimmer of charm that made Gandolfini’s Tony Soprano. There are similarities to The Sopranos especially in tone. A lot of dark things happen in this opening episode, but there are still comedic moments that fit the tone and don’t undermine it. Amazing is the right word.
And Farrell as an actor is completely immersed in this role
I love seeing talented big name actors commit to roles like this, and the makeup/CGI or whatever exactly they did to physically transform him into The Penguin not only passes the eye test, but it looks incredibly realistic. There’s always the risk that if the makeup work isn’t good enough or is just a little off, it can be completely distracting. In The Penguin, it adds to his performance and the overall quality of the show because it’s such a damn good job. Maybe I’m a little biased because he was one of my favorite actors before this show, but I think this will get him some well-deserved recognition.
Kudos to everyone involved with this project
I never tune into new shows right away because I like to watch the episodes all at once, but I wanted to see how this one would actually turn out. It didn’t disappoint, in fact it blew my mind.
